Best of Series – Restaurants to Visit for a Healthy 2018
January 11, 2018
January is the time that many of us create New Year’s resolutions such as eating healthier, exercising more, or just trying new things. With everyone’s mind focused on goals to achieve in 2018, we’re creating helpful articles and lists throughout the month to help our riders achieve their goals by riding DCTA.
The first goal we’re highlighting is eating at healthier restaurants when you’re out with family and friends. Sometimes it’s easier to put your pots and pans away and enjoy a nice meal prepared by someone else. We know the term “healthy” can mean a lot of things to a lot of people, so we’ve focused on local eateries that feature fresh ingredients, whole foods and a lot of options, all accessible with our system:
Denton Eateries
Hannah’s Off the Square (Denton Connect Routes 7 & 8)
Some healthy choices here include salads, cioppino, and cedar plank salmon. If you have more restrictive diet needs, there are many vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and organic options available.
Viet Bites (Elm Street Location: Denton Connect Route 1; Hickory Street Location: Denton Connect Routes 7 & 8, UNT Campus Shuttle: Mean Green)
Need something different than just a salad? Head over to this Vietnamese-inspired restaurant to grab some pho, lettuce wraps, or salad. Vegetarian options are also available.
Barley & Board (Denton Connect Routes 7 & 8)
At this fun brewpub you can order flatbreads, salads, roasted poultry, and more. If you have more restrictive diet needs, there are many vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and organic options available.
The Pickled Carrot at the Austin St Truck Stop (Denton Connect Routes 7 & 8)
Food trucks are known for having mouth-watering and calorie-packed foods, but the Pickled carrot breaks the mold by offering “fast” food without being fast food. Make sure to try their salads or the banh mi sandwiches. If you have more restrictive diet needs, there are many vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and organic options available.
Spiral Diner & Bakery (Denton Connect Routes 1-3 and 5-8, A-train)
Located right next door to our Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC), this self-described “vegan comfort food” is easy to get to from many different directions. This vegan-food paradise will even entice non-vegans with their delicious offerings.
Highland Village Eateries
Mt Fuji – Sushi & Hibachi (Highland Village Connect Shuttle, Community On-Demand, and Uber discount)
They have many light options for you to choose from, including: sashimi, grilled meats, or steamed vegetables. If you have more restrictive diet needs, there are many vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and organic options available.
Seven Mile Café (Highland Village Community On-Demand)
Who doesn’t love a quaint café? Visit this local gem with your family and friends and make sure to check out their entire section of the menu dedicated to vegan options.
Lewisville Eateries
Twister Root Burger Company (Lewisville Connect Route 22)
A healthy burger place? Well, this place offers exotic meats, crazy and inventive toppings, and house-made condiments – so you can customize a healthier burger. Vegetarian and vegan options available.
