Inside Look: DCTA Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month is a special observance celebrated across the world to pay tribute and honor African American people and culture. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote and observe a month to celebrate Black History.

There’s so much to know and learn about various African Americans throughout history who have shaped so much around us including the economy, politics, art, clothing food, music and so much more! This year at DCTA, we’re highlighting some of our key staff to get their perspective and insight on how they have made a positive impact here at DCTA and the North Texas Mobility Corporation (NTMC) and what working here means to them:

How long have you worked for DCTA?

I have been with DCTA for more than seven years.

What makes you proud to work for DCTA?

There are many things that make me proud to work at DCTA, but the one I hold dear is that DCTA provides any and everyone with an opportunity to make a difference in Denton County and surrounding areas via innovative, mobility solutions.

This agency supports diversity and leads with servant leadership and accountability for all which has had a positive impact on myself and many others. I’m the type of person who likes to see people “walk the walk”, and through my lens, it has been gratifying to watch how DCTA has worked hard to do its best of making everyone feel a part of the DCTA and NTMC family.

How long have you worked for NTMC?

I have worked for NTMC for almost two years.

What makes you proud to work for NTMC?

I love people and enjoy helping others.

How long have you worked for NTMC?

I have been with this company for five years. As the old saying goes “time flies when you are having fun”.

What makes you proud to work for NTMC?

There are several things I am especially proud of about NTMC, but let me briefly share my top two highlights.

I am very proud of the way both DCTA and NTMC serve their customers. They value them and strive to meet their needs in this changing industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the fuelers not only cleaned the buses they sanitized them as well. This helped to keep the spread of the virus down and keep their customers safe.

The other thing I am proud of about this company is its rich diversity of employees. I think it is important to have a diverse staff when you are serving a diverse community.

How long have you worked for DCTA?

I have worked for NTMC for more than four years.

What makes you proud to work for NTMC?

I appreciate being able to utilize my skills to serve the public and our riders.

How long have you worked for NTMC?

I have worked for NTMC for nearly two years.

What makes you proud to work for NTMC?

The customer service department is by far one of the most nurturing places to work within the company. I appreciate management for encouraging meaningful exchanges as we interact with clients, passengers and co-workers. I am also grateful for the training we receive as both reinforce a sense of unity, understanding and kindness that creates long-lasting relationships between us and those we serve.

No matter the situation, as they can change from day-to-day, we all engage with a knowing that together we can make a difference. As we journey toward that experience, both parties get to feel supported along the way.

Even though Black History Month is officially celebrated in February, we encourage you to not limit recognizing the achievements and contributions of African Americans to just this month, but all year long!
