Our Daily Bread Gets a Lift from DCTA Buses
December 13, 2022
Leaders from the Our Daily Bread, Together with Monsignor King Outreach Center held a ribbon-cutting on December 10, with officials from the City of Denton and from Denton County.
A few days later, the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) joined the effort by supplying five buses to transport residents and their belongings to the new outreach center at 909 North Loop 288 in Denton.
“Thank you so very much for everything,” said Shelter Director Trish Brooks. “It’s extremely beautiful to see this come to fruition today.”
DCTA also expanded its GoZone rideshare vehicle services to include coverage for the new outreach center, as part of the agency’s commitment to meet the changing transportation needs of our community. In addition, as of January 3, DCTA’s Connect Bus Route 3 has been rerouted to add service to the new outreach center as part of its regular schedule.
New features available at the facility include a computer lounge area, showers, meeting rooms, onsite laundry, a work training program, a commercial kitchen and wellness services. Providing services in one facility can help break down barriers that keep people from finding the help they need, according to the outreach center staff.
The new Our Daily Bread, Together with Monsignor King Outreach Center feeds, shelters and cares for the homeless and the at-risk in our community while maintaining the dignity of guests and offering opportunities for a new start. The organization has served the homeless and at-risk populations in Denton County for over 20 years. With over 2,000 volunteers logging more than 30,000 volunteer hours every year, the agency provides over 800 meals daily.
