President’s Post – Success of Rail Schedule Modifications
October 10, 2012
In August, I posted information on the improvements to the DCTA A-train schedule. These changes included primarily the addition of mid-day service, the extension of late night service on the weekends, and an earlier start to Saturday service. While the jury is still out on the weekend service, the rest of the changes and increased rider awareness have resulted in a strong improvement to overall weekday ridership. Comparing the first ten days of the university school year in 2011 and 2012, there was an increase of over 50%. We were very pleased to see this, and even more pleased to see the sustainment of these levels through the month of September.
We are planning significant changes for our bus service in January. This will balance the improvements, and ensure we retain the focus on the “last mile” connections. Customer feedback has been a huge part of our planning process. Please let us know if there are areas we need to improve as well as suggestions.
The future is bright at DCTA!
