The Best Ways to Enjoy Denton County on a Budget

If you are budget conscious, cheap or frugal but want some fun activities to do in Denton County have no fear — there is plenty to do with little to no cost at all. Outdoor Recreational Fun
We’re lucky to have wonderful resources in our local parks. I turn to the city calendars in our area to learn more about hiking, biking, frisbee golf, movies, music, fishing and picnicking in our parks. The city park websites are full of free and low-cost activities. You’d be surprised at the variety of things available! Southlakes Park – Denton (Denton Connect Route 1)
Southlakes Park is one of the many wonderful parks in Denton. The park has basketball and tennis courts, a play arena for children and two tranquil ponds. There is a long trail for walking and running and a path off the road for hiking. Ride Denton Connect Route 1 to get there.
Lake Park – Lewisville (Lewisville Connect Route 21)
The Lake Park in Lewisville is home to a disc golf course — get your ace shot playing disc golf with your friends. There is no cost to play the course. Ride Lewisville Connect Route 21 to get there!
Doubletree Park – Highland Village (Highland Village Lyft Program)
Splash into some fun at Doubletree Park in Highland Village! With three wet play sequence zones for continuous water action, 15 water features and one waterfall, who wouldn’t have fun? The splash pad has a natural creek look and flow. Enjoy your spring and summer days at Doubletree Park! Use our Highland Village Lyft Program to get there!
Downtown Fun
Old Town Lewisville (Lewisville Connect Route 22)
Old Town Lewisville sponsors fun activities on the first Friday of each month for all ages. There are activities and local artisans in the breezeway and/or in walkways on Main Street. Enjoy the live outdoor music in the Poydras Plaza breezeway. An acoustic jam takes place in Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater from 7 to10 p.m. Ride our A-train to the Old Town Station and take a short walk to get there! Or take Lewisville Connect Route 22.
Denton Square (Denton Connect Route 1)
Participate in the Denton Square photo scavenger hunt sponsored by Discover Denton Use your phone to capture photos from the clues Discover Denton posted on their website. When you are done, stop by the Discover Denton Welcome Center to claim your prize! Ride our A-train to the Downtown Denton Transit Center and take a short walk to the Denton Square or ride there with Denton Connect Route 1.
Whimsical Fun
Visit this whimsical and eccentric lot filled with hundreds of chairs. The Chairy Orchard, located in an empty lot between two neighbors in a Denton neighborhood is open to the public. Take your pick of a seat in this magical orchard. Snap a picture or two for Instagram. Enjoy the smile that this creative landscape will certainly bring to your face!

The Hive – Lewisville (Ride Lewisville Connect Route 22)
The Hive, Lewisville Public Library’s makerspace, is home to innovation and creativity. It features two 3D printers, a laser cutter, a Carvey CNC milling machine, sewing machines, an embroidery machine and more.

A crafter and artist’s paradise, SCRAP is a donation-based creative reuse store and donation center in Denton. Along with the ever-changing and diverse store items, SCRAP also provides a range of educational opportunities within the community.

Bargain Shopping and Movie Fun
Thrift Giant- Denton (Denton Connect Route 2)
Hunt for clothing bargains at thrift and consignment stores. Check out Thrift Giant in Denton. Remember, you don’t even have to buy anything! Sometimes it’s more fun to browse and try things on. To get there take Denton Connect Route 2.
Sky Theater- Denton (Denton Connect Route 7 or 8)
The movies at the Sky Theater at the University of North Texas (UNT) Astronomy Center are far out and low-cost. See what’s playing and learn more about the center on its website. Ride Denton Connect Route 7 or 8 to get there.
Silver Cinema- Denton (Denton Connect Route 2)
If you are trying to get your steps in, take a walk around the Golden Triangle Mall and then check out a cheap movie at Silver Cinema at the mall. Tickets are $2.50 for a movie! Check out what’s on the big screen at the Silver Cinema website. Ride Denton Connect Route 2 to get there.
